Week Two

Thursday 6 March 2008

The second night of a show can often be an anti-climax after the excitement of first night has faded and the reality of the job ahead kicks in. Our second week with the students of the Bridge School, however, was nothing like this.

After our usual vocal and physical warm-ups, the students rose to the challenge of week two and learnt a three minute dance routine to Bobby Darin’s Beyond the Sea, which they will perform once they have boarded the dream ship after entering the dream world.

We rehearsed the party call-and-response which got everyone very excited. Any mention of the words ‘party’, ‘dancing’ or ‘music’, and the students all pay attention and want to be involved.

We also introduced the idea of the sea. What does it feel like to be on a ship? What sounds can you hear? What is it like to be underwater? What creatures might you meet? Much fun was had when Dan Ayling and Imogen Knight used a sheet to simulate a wave crashing over the heads of everyone. This will definitely make an appearance in the performance!

It was, as ever, a session full of high energy, fun and laughter. Next week we will explore more what it’s like to be under the sea and what happens when you get washed up on a desert island.

Highlights of the Week

  • Harry, who only briefly made an appearance last week, performed his own one man routine which consisted of running round the circle shouting at the top of his voice and waving his arms around. This lasted a good few minutes and provided a lot of amusement.
  • Nitesh, Ellie and Anthony all danced brilliantly during Beyond the Sea.
  • Nina provided us with a beautiful seagull sound and Andrew demonstrated the sound a dolphin.
  • Ross was a fierce shark with a pillow for his fin.
  • We all congratulated Daniel on his 18th birthday.
