Rehearsal Blog
Week Three
Thursday 13 March 2008
This week we decided to consolidate all the work we’ve done so far and run it in sequence. We wanted to take stock at this halfway stage and see how much we’ve achieved and what there is still to do.
We began the session a little late as a number of the teaching assistants were absent. After a quick vocal warm-up we started at the beginning of the play with the There’s a Party Tomorrow call-and-response and, as usual, this got everyone very excited. After rehearsing this twice we re-capped the 'Round of Sounds'.
In our story the drama studio is the dream world and in order to enter the dream world you have to start outside it… in the real world! So we continued the session by taking everyone outside into the school’s entrance hall and repeated the opening call-and-response and 'Round of Sounds'. Following this we handed out pillows (our passport to the dream world) and processed back into the drama studio accompanied by the ethereal voice of Alison Goldfrapp singing Felt Mountain on the CD player.
With everyone safely in the dream world we built our dream ship by placing the pillows on the floor in the shape of a ship. Once aboard we waved ‘bon voyage’ to the real world and practised our dance routine to Beyond the Sea. The session was concluded with Dan teaching everyone the words to our second call and response – The Island.
Highlights of the Week
- MJ remembered that the sea was cold.
- Levi burped a lot and wanted everyone to get drunk on vodka!
- Everyone laughed at Peter (their tutor) when he was mentioned in The Island call and response.
- Dan forgot the words to the first call and response and everyone found this extremely funny.
- Aaron was really active.
- Aaron and Cedric curled up together on the floor.
