Homecoming

During March 2008, Year 10 GCSE Drama and BTEC Performing Arts students at Highbury Grove School, participated in a residency project influenced by the Almeida Theatre's current production of Harold Pinter's The Homecoming

Over six weeks of workshops, the students created devised pieces, working towards their final assessed course presentations.  Their initial remit was to explore the idea of 'the homecoming', literally, 'coming home'.  Returning to places familiar and new. Embarking on journeys away from loved ones, or back together again.  Their starting points were the stories that immigrants to England bring with them: their reasons for leaving their old home and their reaction to what has suddenly become their new one.

The residency project was led by director Ned Glasier, choreographer Freddie Opuko-Addaie and the Almeida Theatre's Artistic Associate, Jenny Worton.  The team helped the students develop their ideas and stretch their boundaries, creating a structure for their pieces and tightening their performances in time for the final showing of their work to an invited audience.
