at Highbury Grove School

Three months of work inspired by Marianne Dreams with thousands of students across Islington came to an end with a unique and ambitious project at Highbury Grove School.

Marianne Dreams: Play in a Daybrought twenty theatre professionals together with two hundred Year 7 students, all of whom had been given the entire day off their normal classes, to create eight original pieces of theatre inspired by the Almeida’s recent family production of Marianne Dreams.

From 8.30am to 3pm, Highbury Grove’s C corridor reverberated with dreams and hopes, nightmares and fears, scribbling magic pencils, dancing feet and group chants.  Led by directors, designers, choreographers and actors, each group took what most inspired them in the play and used it to create an entirely new piece of theatre.

After a long school day's devising, the entire year group gathered together in the school hall to share their pieces as one complete performance.  The students presented their work on a specially designed set with professional lighting and sound, to an invited audience of school staff, family and friends.
