The heart of the Almeida's artistic vision is the presentation of bold and adventurous play choices staged to the highest possible standards, in productions which reveal them in a new light.
 
This vision includes classics from the British, American and Irish repertoire, foreign classics in newly commissioned versions, and new plays.
 
The annual Summer Festival season hosts visiting theatre companies in residence, the staging of small-scale new work and the presentation of premieres of new chamber operas and contemporary music concerts.
 
The Almeida Islington is a unique arena for public performance. It is distinctive as a "found" space and has lent a unique quality to each of the forms it has taken, as literary institute, music hall, Salvation Army Citadel and, since 1980 as a theatre.
 
The curved back wall is central to the theatre and is a signature of many Almeida productions, enfolding performers and audiences together.  The Almeida Theatre stage being as large as the auditorium is small, the theatre's success is grounded in the intimacy of the relationship between performers and audience.
