Artistic Vision

The heart of the Almeida's artistic vision is the staging of British and international drama presented to the highest possible standards in productions which reveal the plays in a new light.

This vision includes classics of the British and Irish repertoire, foreign classics in newly commissioned versions and new plays.

The annual Opera season presents specially commissioned operas and music theatre pieces, and concerts of contemporary music

The Almeida Islington is a unique arena for public performance.  It is distinctive as a "found" space and has lent a unique quality to each of the forms it has taken, as literary institute, music hall, Salvation Army Citadel and, since 1980 as a theatre.

The curved back wall is central to the theatre and is a signature of many Almeida productions and enfolds performers and audiences together.  The Almeida's acting area is as large as the auditorium is small and the Almeida's success is the intimacy of the relationship between performers and audience.
