An Almeida Theatre production in association with GULP
One hot summer in London and the school holidays are dragging: there’s nothing to do and no money to do it with. And yet everyone has something they need to sell: mobile phone, clothes, furniture, or even a part of themselves.
Charlotte wants to be someone more exotic, Raz needs a job, and Shanice-Loren needs some cash, fast. Ellie’s in trouble and Topaz has a crush. Ruby and Alex from the opposite sides of town – and life – meet over a stolen phone and realise that differences can be a good thing.
15 teenage lives intertwine in a world where life can change overnight, where everything must go…
GULP is made up of a group of Young Friends of the Almeida, aged between 15 and 19. This unique piece of theatre was created over the course of six months with writer Tanya Ronder. Or Nearest Offer explores how themes and issues from the Almeida Theatre’s 2008-2009 season have resonated with the company’s lives.
Tanya Ronder’s work includes adaptations of Lorca’s Blood Wedding for the Almeida and Vernon God Little for the Young Vic.
