Our Projects
In this section you’ll find information about our current and forthcoming projects, listed with the most recent first on the menu on the left hand side.
Since 2003, Almeida Projects has run over 100 projects with schools, colleges and other organisations in the local community. These range from one or two day specialist workshops to plays written and produced especially for audiences of young people.
Our projects are inspired by the productions taking place on the Almeida stage. All our workshops are run according to the Almeida’s normal rehearsal etiquette. Participants will often visit the Almeida Theatre, to take part in a Discovery Workshop, to see a production here or to present their work on our stage to an invited audience.
Recent projects include:
Bridge of Dreams: Building on the success of 2007's Where Are We Going? this is Almeida Projects' second residency working with pupils with severe and multiple learning difficulties at the Bridge School in Islington. Pupils attended a special performance of the Almeida Theatre's production of Marianne Dreams and are now creating their own devised presentation inspired by the dream world we inhabit when we sleep. Students are working with a core team of a professional director, designer and drama faciliators together with volunteers from Almeida Projects' principal sponsor Lehman Brothers. Workshops are now well under way and the final presentation is due to take place in the school's new drama studio on 3 April 2008 for an invited audience of fellow students, staff, family and friends.
Play In A Day @ Highbury Grove School: following their visit to the Almeida Theatre's production of Marianne Dreams, the entire Year 7 of Highbury Grove School created their own play in a day. Each class group worked intensively with two workshop leaders to produce a short scene based around the theme of dreams. After a long day's devising, the scenes were performed consecutively in one presentation at the end of the school day, for the whole year group and an invited audience of staff, family and friends.
Platform 9:
75 students from our partner schools worked on their response to Act One of Cloud Nine, which they came to see in a special performance. Over 4 sessions the students created a series of snapshots showing what they think will happen to the characters in Act Two, set in 2007. Set in and around the opening of St Pancras International Station, Platform 9 was performed on stage at the Almeida in November 2007 for an invited audience including the cast of Cloud Nine.
Lostlings: a three week devised performance project with students from City and Islington College inspired by the Almeida Opera The Silent Twins by Errollyn Wallen and April de Angelis.
Out of the Fog:
a new play for young people by Roy Williams inspired by Theodore Ward’s Big White Fog, seen by over 1,000 students from schools in Islington, Camden, Hackney and Haringey.
