Projections
“Why try?
Where do I belong?
Can my history influence my future?”
Projections is rooted in finding out what aspirations teachers, pupils and parents in local Islington Schools have for themselves and their communities. What, if any, obstacles stand in the way of those goals? How can the school play a role in overcoming these obstacles? What contribution can a business like Pinsent Masons make?
Commissioned by Pinsent Masons through the Arts and Business New Partners Scheme, Almeida Projects undertook to ask these questions through a series of workshops, interviews and questionnaires and to form a lasting relationship between Pinsent Masons and the schools in their community as part of their national Inspiring Young Lives programme.
We invited local schools to help us. These schools are Central Foundation Boys' School, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Language College and Mount Carmel RC Technology College for Girls.
In December 2006 Almeida Projects worked with a core Pinsent Mason strategy group using drama-based exercises to explore their own experiences of education, ideals of what education should be and the role which they want corporate responsibility to play.
In February 2007 Almeida Projects facilitated a series of Projections Workshops with students, teachers and parents from these schools. In these workshops, we offered staff and parents a rare chance to reflect on the values the school holds and its place in the community. For the students, we offered the opportunity to have their voices heard in a context which will be long-lasting and far-ranging as well as the chance to work alongside leading theatre artists to develop their ideas.
The findings were collated into the Projections Report.
