Since 2003, Almeida Projects has worked with thousands of young people in Islington on a wide range of projects inspired by the Almedia’s productions.

2006-7

Opera in a Day:  Reinterpreting The Silent Twins Opera with 20 young people … in just six hours.

 

Lostlings:  A three week exploration of The Silent Twins with AS level drama students at City and Islington College.

 

A Voice in the Crowd:  Devised performance project based on Big White Fog, as part of Kings Corner Project’s Theatre Industry Course.

 

Highbury Fog:  GCSE and BTEC students at Highbury Grove School devised new pieces based on Out of the Fog.

 

Projections:  A creative research project involving Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Language College, Mount Carmel RC Technology College and Central Foundation Boys School, on behalf of Pinsent Masons.

 

Out of the Fog:  Roy Williams’ new play, inspired by Big White Fog and performed for over 1,000 young people in Islington, Hackney, Haringey and Camden.

 

Finsbury Fog:  BTEC Students at Islington Arts and Media School performed a cut-down version of Theodore Ward’s Big White Fog.

 

Makin’ A Scene 2:  A series of workshops for mental health service users inspired by There Came a Gypsy Riding. Produced in collaboration with Islington Music Forum.

 

Where Are We Going?:  Devised performance with 20 students with severe and profound learning difficulties at the Bridge School.

 

Staging the Ages:  Exploring 50 years of costumes and theatre through Tom and Viv.

 

Out of the Dark #2: Theatre laboratory using lights and projection, inspired by TS Eliot’s poem 'Marina'.


2005-6

WRITE.:  A new writing festival for first time playwrights in Islington.

 

Revolutionary Stages:  Can theatre change the world?  30 City and Islington AS Drama students set out to find out.


SICK! at School:  SICK! on tour and explored in more depth at Highbury Grove School.

 

Hyper:  Islington Arts and Media School students performed a cut down version of The Hypochondriac.

 

Makin’ A Scene:  Our first ever collaboration with Islington Music Forum: a music and theatre project for adult mental health service users.

 

Sicko:  A scripted performance project with students from Highbury Grove School working on extracts from The Hypochondriac and SICK!.

 

SICK!:  A new version of Molière’s The Hypochondriac, created especially for 11 year olds in Islington.

 

Out of the Dark:  Eight former projects participants joined us to cut down and re-write The Hypochondriac in order to create SICK!.  At the same time, three young people worked with a photographer to explore the theatre's hidden stories.

 

2004-5

This Little Hand:  Devised theatre project exploring City and Islington College students’ responses to the female characters in the 2004-5 Almeida season.

 

The Cricket Re-mixed:  Devised pieces inspired by The Cricket Recovers Opera and performed by students at Islington Arts and Media School.

 

Darwin Project: A science and drama collaboration exploring the ethical and human implications of Darwin’s theories.

 

Re:fresh:  Devised performances by students from Project Fresh Start.

 

Almeida Angels:  Students from Project Fresh Start wrote and edited newsletters designed to encourage young people to come to the Almeida.

 

Pier Pressure:  Devised theatre project at Highbury Grove School, inspiredy by Brighton Rock.

 

2003-4

Celebration:  Playwriting project based on Festen, with students from Holloway, Highbury and Islington Green Schools.
