Out of the Dark #2

Participants using lights in Out of the Dark 2

Our second Out of the Dark’ project brought together young people from schools and colleges across Islington.  Working with Almeida Projects’ Rebecca Manson Jones and Ned Glasier, the lighting designer Anna Watson and the photographer Phill Pepper, the participants explored the empty Almeida space, using lighting, projection, movement and voice to bring TS Eliot’s poem, Marina, to life.

The week enabled us to consider themes in the forthcoming 2006-7 Almeida season: the work of TS Eliot – subject of Michael Hasting’s Tom and Viv and the use of projection in Charlotte Jones’ The Lightning Play.

After three days of experimentation with overhead projectors, stage lights, laptops and chalk, the participants presented a short showing of their ideas to an invited audience.
