Out of the Fog
In March 2007, Almeida Projects invited over 1,000 students from 14 different schools in Islington, Hackney, Haringey and Camden to take part in a unique theatre project: Out of the Fog.
Written by Roy Williams and inspired by scores of students and young performers’ responses to Theodore Ward’s Big White Fog, Out of the Fog was our most ambitious project to date. It was created especially for young people aged 13-18 in North London and was performed with a cast of professional actors, directed by Matt Wilde, on the Almeida stage.
Four of our partner schools – Islington Arts and Media, Highbury Grove, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson and Central Foundation – brought their entire Year 9 group to see the show. Other schools and colleges brought their GCSE, BTEC and A-level students.
Every student who saw the show took part in an introductory workshop at their school led by a dedicated team of 10 workshop leaders: A total of 75 workshops over 3 weeks.
Out of the Fog inspired ‘Highbury Fog’, a BTEC and GCSE Drama devising project at Highbury Grove School (see link on the left hand side).
