Meet the cast

The Out of the Fog cast

One of the central themes in Out of the Fog is choice – and how the choices that the different characters make affect their lives and those around them.  Here, the actors in Out of the Fog talk about an important choice that they have made in the past.

CLAIRE BENEDICT (Joyce)
When I was just six, my epilepsy was eating into my family’s life: every day filled with seizures that sent me into a zombie-like state, unable to speak without slurring my words or bumping into objects.

The decision to take me to England was made by the doctor: there they could control the epilepsy with drugs and the weather would be better for me.  My mother had to make the most difficult decision: leave her home, her job, her husband: everything she knew and cherished on the island.  How were we going to survive in an alien land?

EMMANUEL IDOWU (Adam)
I knew from an early age that I wanted to become an actor. I was very passionate about the whole concept behind acting and I wanted to learn and understand everything I could about it.

One of the biggest decisions I had to make was to stay focussed because in this day and age there are a lot of things that can side-track people into not following their dreams.  So if you have a dream and you’re not focussed on it due to peer pressure or jealousy, ditch the negative, stay positive, follow your heart, be you and make it happen.

CECILIA NOBLE (Angie)
One of my biggest decisions was to have my daughter rather than go and do an acting job that I really wanted to do.   When I am playing with my 14 month old daughter I know I made the right choice.  Everytime!

JAVONE PRINCE (Ricky)
A big decision in my life was when I failed my exams, because I was spending too much time hanging around the wrong people trying to be cool.

I was so mad with myself because I knew I was smarter than that. I needed about 5 A to C Grades to get me into college to do a performing arts course.

So I decided to go to college and pretend that I got the results. The college let me in and I stopped hanging around with these people who weren’t making me do anything with my life.

But, the college eventually found me out. So I had to retake the exams and I passed,  mainly because I wanted to be an actor so badly. I’m glad I cut my friends off because I wouldn’t be acting now if I followed them. So follow your own mind.

NICOLE CHARLES (Debbie)

One of the biggest decisions I ever made was to attend my local youth theatre. I was encouraged, no, actually I was forced to join one by my mother, who insisted I go with no arguments!

I, being 11 almost 12, felt I was too cool for drama clubs and was in a right strop about it. So, I was dragged there and reluctantly I had to admit that it was really alright ... in fact, I loved it.   And from then on, I never left. It showed me that I should give things a try, one never knows what going to some club might lead to!

NAOMI BENTLEY (Charmaine/Wanda)
Moving to London when I was 19 has to of been one of the biggest decisions I’ve ever had to make.

After leaving college in Bolton where I grew up, I decided I wanted to be an actress and although it wasn’t essential to be in London, I figured if I wanted to give myself the best start I could, London was the place to be and study.

I’ve been here for 5 years now, and can honestly say I’ve no regrets. Leaving my family and friends behind was difficult and continues to be tough at times but this is my life, I’m only here once. I have to live it for me.
