World Premiere

The Lightning Play

By Charlotte Jones

production information

“That’s how it’ll be one day. The doorbell will go and she’ll be home. Just like that.”

North London at Halloween, Max Villiers a celebrity ghost writer and his wife Harriet, a talented shopper, host a party.

As Max connects his first plasma TV, the evening is hijacked by interference from the past. There are trick or treaters at the door and strangers on the brand new rug.

This is the world premiere of a shocking and darkly humorous play from the writer of Humble Boy at the National Theatre and the West End.  Charlotte Jones’ other writing includes the book of The Woman in White in the West End and The Dark at the Donmar Warehouse.

Director Anna Mackmin’s most recent projects include Mammals at the Bush Theatre and the highly acclaimed Burn, Chatroom & Citizenship at the National Theatre.

A dark, perceptive character comedy

Time Out

Reviews

A genuinely original playwriting voice, Jones often writes like a magic realist novelist or poet. She is of course, a theatrical conjuror
